The tasting room front view

I have read many reviews and accolades about the nearly famous The Chef’s Table in downtown Winter Garden’s historic district. Owners Kevin and Laurie Tarter have very strong resumes. Kevin has cooked at Disney’s finest dining establishment Victoria & Albert’s at the Grand Floridian Hotel. He has also cooked in high profile restaurants in New Orleans like Arnauds. However, on this dining occasion I did not eat at The Chef’s Table. I ate at The Chef’s Table sister’s restaurant named The Tasting Room.
The Tasting Room offers small plates and tapas types of food but with big time flavors. Their so called small plates are definitely shareable. The Tasting room also has craft beers, exotic drinks, and a full bar.
The Tasting Room serves some of the best food I have eaten in Central Florida. My dinner companion and I started with BBQ Shrimp and Heirloom Cheese Grits $9.9. The shrimp was tossed with a creole butter bbq sauce that went so well with the cheese grits. Amazing flavor, not too spicy just had the right kick to it. Trying buying bbq shrimp at Emeril’s for under $10.
We also tried the St Louis BBQ Style Ribs $8. The slow cooked bbq ribs were topped with a Guava BBQ sauce and a side of candied collard greens. The ribs fell off the bone, were packed with tons of flavors and came with southern style collard greens.
We also tried the Rita’s Fried Chicken Livers $7.9. This was probably one of my favorite dishes. I have a weakness for good fried chicken livers. Bubbalous BBQ does them well but not like The Tasting Room. These fried chicken livers were topped with house made Andouille & Chorizo style gravy. Delish!!
I was also excited about the Fish Tacos $8. I love tacos. These tacos were made with fresh seasoned fried catfish. They were also served with a crunchy slaw with a creole sauce I got on the side.
We also tried the Heirloom Tomato Flatbread $12.5. This flatbread came with garlic confit, shaved red onion, goat cheese, and with fresh basil.
The service was spectacular. The server was very knowledgeable. It’s been awhile since I was served by someone who treated their serving profession so career like. Reminded me of the servers back in the Lee’s Lakeside days.
The Tasting Room is located at 99 W Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL. It is open Sunday – Thursday 4-10pm. Friday –Saturday 4-11:30pm. Ph # 407-230-4837. Website www.chefstableattheedgewater.com .
